7. Alice in Wonderland / Lewis Carroll
(Approx. 100 million copies)
The math teacher liked to have fun with photography, word games – and playing with children of his acquaintances. One of his beloved friends was Alice Liddell, for whom he wrote “Alice in Wonderland” – the story we all know from childhood, about Alice, who stumbled into the white rabbit’s den and from there arrived in a strange wonderland land full of magical creatures, talking cards, and magic potions.
Initially, the book was intended for his family; but acquaintances who saw the book urged Carroll to publish the book to the general public.
The success of the book led to the creation of Walt Disney’s famous animated film, a cartoon series that was also broadcast in Israel, and two successful films directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp.
